The data is confirming what most of us already knew - the U.S. economy has yet to return to normal, and it will not be getting back to normal in the near future. While Maryland has some natural economic advantages over other states - such as our proximity to the federal government, for example - we are by no means immune to the fiscal and economic effects of COVID-19 or the Delta variant.

Particularly in times of uncertainty, it is important that Maryland have a Comptroller with proven executive experience, and a proven record of success, in both the public AND private sectors. Respectfully, I am that candidate.

Having literally started a defense-related business out of the trunk of my car, I am proud to be recognized today as one of America's leading Black entrepreneurs, with one of the 10 leading minority-owned businesses in the Greater Washington region.

I am honored to be a member of the Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Hall of Fame, a member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Daily Record's prestigious ICON Honors Award. At a time when Maryland's next Comptroller will be expected to lead nearly 1,200 employees across the State in the midst of economic challenges - while serving our taxpayers, protecting our taxpayers and watching their hard-earned money as a member of the Board of Public Works - it will help to have, as Comptroller, someone who has signed the FRONT of a paycheck as well as the back.

Please take a moment to read more about my vision, values and credentials to serve as your next Comptroller. I hope to hear from you and I humbly ask for your support!

Our entire family is mourning the loss of Christa Baker, the wife of former County Executive Rushern Baker and the mother of their beautiful children.

Christa fought valiantly for years against Alzheimer’s Disease and, through it all, Rushern was her faithful and loving caregiver. We are saddened by the fact that a beautiful and advocate for social justice has left us too soon, but also deeply grateful to have known Christa and watched this beautiful love story between two special people for as long as we did.

Praying that the Baker family can find peace in one another’s presence and in the memories of a life well-lived.

Thankful and impressed that common sense has prevailed in Baltimore County. Towson and Dulaney High Schools are both unhealthy, unsafe and well past the point of repair. The only responsible course of action - both from an academic and a fiscal perspective - is to replace both of these crumbling facilities with new schools where teachers can actually teach, and where children can actually learn.

As your next Comptroller, I look forward to supporting legislation that will return oversight of Maryland's School Construction Program to the Board of Public Works, where communities like these will be able to make their case in a transparent forum before a truly accountable body of government.

This year's National Hispanic Heritage Month began on September 15 and will be observed through October 15. It is a wonderful opportunity for all Americans to celebrate the extraordinary contributions that Hispanic-Americans have made to our nation's economy and cultural vibrance.

As the mayor of Bowie, a thriving city that has been transformed by our racial and ethnic diversity, I am looking forward to celebrating this amazing segment of the American family in the weeks that lay ahead.
